Namahana School Submits Application to State Charter Commission
Middle and High School Finally Within Reach for Kaua‘i’s North Shore
After a 22-month suspension of the charter application process, the Hawai‘i State Charter Commission announced in December 2021 that the process would resume and set an application deadline of February 4, 2022. The Namahana Team led by School Leader Dr. Kapua Chandler and Governing Board Chair Melanie Mitsue Parker quickly mobilized resources and submitted a detailed and extensive application to the Charter Commission.

Thanks You! We have reached our fundraising GOAL of $9,000. 15 elementary school students from Hanalei and Kilauea Schools to will participate in the Adopt-a-Band program for 2021!
Savor Festival 2019
Proceeds from the annual SAVOR event benefit our Let’s Build A School Initiative, our Educational Enrichment (After School) Programs, and our Scholarship support for North Shore students attending Kauai Community College.
Code Camp -- Fun for All!
Code Camp was held at the Anaina Hou Community Park. Kids enrolled to learn how to program Altino Cars to perform basic maneuvers.
2019 Student Scholarships Awarded
Scholarship funds were awarded to full time North Shore students.
SAVOR Festival 2018
The Savor 2018 event raised over $166,000, benefiting the Foundation’s after-school elementary and middle school programs and scholarships for the Kauai Community College for the Kauai North Shore youth.
Let’s Build A School Initiative Receives Major Donation
In January of 2018, Bill & Joan Porter generously donated a 99-year renewable lease of 8 acres of land in Kalihiwai mauka of Kuhio Highway for the purpose of building a tuition-free public charter school. Bringing a secondary school to the North Shore that all children can attend regardless of their ability to pay has long been the Porter’s intention.
UH Student Scholarships Awarded
University of Hawaii scholarships awarded. Recipients of the 2017 Savor Event Scholarship Funds: Marvin Jake De Peralta, Mary-Martha Hull, Maluhia Lhote, Tayler Rex, Rebekah Stevens and Kalei Waipa.
Savor Festival 2017
The 2nd Annual education fundraiser, SAVOR – A Wine and Chocolate Fundraising Event, was held last August at the beautiful setting of Po’oku Meadow in Princeville where over 200 people attended.
