Namahana School Submits Application to State Charter Commission

Middle and High School Finally Within Reach for Kaua‘i’s North Shore

After a 22-month suspension of the charter application process, the Hawai‘i State Charter Commission announced in December 2021 that the process would resume and set an application deadline of February 4, 2022. The Namahana Team led by School Leader Dr. Kapua Chandler and Governing Board Chair Melanie Mitsue Parker quickly mobilized resources and submitted a detailed and extensive application to the Charter Commission.

Let’s Build A School Initiative Receives Major Donation

In January of 2018, Bill & Joan Porter generously donated a 99-year renewable lease of 8 acres of land in Kalihiwai mauka of Kuhio Highway for the purpose of building a tuition-free public charter school. Bringing a secondary school to the North Shore that all children can attend regardless of their ability to pay has long been the Porter’s intention.
