Donate Stock

Gifts of stock are an easy way to make a lasting contribution to the Kaua'i North Shore Community Foundation while realizing significant tax benefits.

With your donation of appreciated securities that have been held for at least one year,  you can take a tax deduction for the fair market value of your gift and avoid paying capital gains taxes.  We are prepared to accept such gifts with a transfer from your brokerage firm or other account. Donor Advised Funds (DAF)

A donor-advised fund is an account at a sponsoring organization, generally a public charity, where an individual can make a charitable gift to enjoy an immediate tax benefit and retain advisory privileges to disburse charitable gifts over time. The contribution a donor makes to their donor-advised fund is 100% irrevocable and destined for a final 501(c)(3) organization. Donor-advised funds provide a flexible way for donors to pass money through to charities—an alternative to direct giving or creating a private foundation. Donors enjoy administrative convenience (the sponsoring organization does the paperwork after the initial donation), cost savings (a foundation requires around 2.5% to 4% of its assets each year to run), and tax advantages (versus individual giving) by conducting their grant-making through the fund.

Because a public charity houses the fund, donors receive the maximum tax deduction available, while avoiding excise taxes and other restrictions imposed on private foundations. Further, donors avoid the cost of establishing and administering a private foundation, including staffing and legal fees. The donor receives the maximum tax deduction at the time they donate to their account, and the organization that administers the fund gains full control over the contribution, granting the donor advisory status. As such, the administrating fund is not legally bound to the donor, but makes grants to other public charities on the donor's recommendation.

Matching Funds & Gifts - Double the impact of your donation!

There are two distinct ways to make a contribution that effectively doubles its value.  One is through the workplace, and the other is by creating a matching fund for a cause you are passionate about.  It should be related to one of our priorities and funds raised can only be sent to another non-profit.

Matching Funds

Matching funds are a way to multiply the impact of a gift from a donor, company, or community partner (or some combination) to help encourage donations for specific community projects.

Matching Gifts

Many companies provide a matching gift program to employees and former employees. Through matching gifts, these companies are dedicated to supporting vitally important community-building work both near and far. Some companies will provide a 100% match, thereby doubling the value of your gift. Please let us know if your employer has a program when you make a donation to the Kaua'i North Shore Community Foundation.

Bequests - One of the simplest ways to make a lasting gift to the Kaua’i North Shore Community Foundation is to include a statement in your will or living trust that a share of your estate will be distributed to the Foundation.

Bequests are deductible as charitable gifts for estate tax purposes and can include most assets. A charitable bequest may be added to an existing will as a codicil.

When your attorney draws up your will or living trust, Kaua’i North Shore Community Foundation should be designated as:

Kaua'i North Shore Community Foundation, a Hawaii non-profit public benefit corporation, with a business address of P.O. Box 223381, Princeville, HI 96722

KNSCF's taxpayer identification number is: 46-0709000

The Foundation was incorporated on July 23, 2012.

We suggest you specify that your bequest be "used in such a manner as the Board of Directors of the Kaua’i North Shore Community Foundation shall, in its discretion, determine."  If you prefer to restrict your bequest to a particular Fund, KNSCF is pleased to work with you to ensure that your wishes will be met.

Honorarium

What better way to honor a special person or occasion (perhaps a birthday, wedding anniversary, or holiday) than by helping Kauai's North Shore? An honorarium provides a significant way to bring recognition to a living friend or loved one by helping a cause that has a real and immediate impact on the community. Once the donation is made, the Foundation will send a letter to the honoree acknowledging your contribution. You will also receive a letter confirming your donation.

To make a donation in honor of someone, please add the honoree’s name plus the name and address of who should receive the Acknowledgment Card to the appropriate fields below when giving an online donation or include in the envelope when mailing in a gift.

Special Occasion

To make a donation in recognition of a special occasion, please add the occasion’s name to the "in honor of" field below plus the name and address of who should receive the Acknowledgment Card when giving an online donation or include in the envelope when mailing in a gift.

Memorial

Nothing can ever replace the loss of a friend or loved one, but we can commemorate their life with an everlasting tribute reminding us that they are not forgotten. Memorial donations are typically made in memory of a deceased family member, friend, or coworker. A memorial donation is a fitting way to remember a special person while at the same time helping others. Kauai's North Shore Community Foundation responds to memorial donations by sending a letter to the deceased’s family acknowledging the donation. We will send a notification to the donor acknowledging the gift has been received and notification has been sent to the deceased’s family.

To make a donation in memory of someone, please add the person’s name to remember plus the name and address of who should receive the Acknowledgment Card to the appropriate fields below when giving an online donation or include in the envelope when mailing in a gift.
