The North Shore Dog Park was built by our community.

The North Shore Dog Park is privately funded, designed, and built by the Kauai North Shore Community Foundation, with no city, county, or government funding. The park was created by a gift from a local anonymous donor who wished to establish a dog park through the Foundation and has been a major supporter since. It is located on land generously donated for use by Bill and Joan Porter, and built and sustained by donors and volunteers. Board member Barbara Cameron oversaw the construction project and it opened in the fall of 2013.

With materials donated by Shawn & Mark Hurt, the North Shore Lions Club worked hard to build two shade structures, providing relief for the dog park guests from the hot sun and frequent rain showers. In 2023, the North Shore Lions Club kindly power washed and repainted both structures, and new Doggie Stations replaced the rusted ones.

We held a PAWS around the Park in 2016 and Strut Your Mutt in 2019, both of which were fun social events for dogs and friends and fundraisers to care for the North Shore Dog Park. Our goal is to raise funds for an entire year and sustain a reserve fund for future repairs of the fences, benches, and shade structures. Maintenance throughout the year at the dog park costs about $10,000 and includes mowing, weed whacking, tree trimming, hedging, property taxes, fence repairs, and more.

Wai Koa Trail in Jeopardy of closing to all dogs

Access to the Wai Koa Trail and Stone Dam is now solely from the Dog Park creating more traffic and opportunities for unfavorable dog interactions.

Keep this public access open by adhering to the leash policy. Signs have been posted at the trailhead and at the dog park reminding everyone to do their part to ensure this privately owned community resource remains available to public access.

ATTENTION ALL DOG PARK MEMBERS & USERS

Ensure Continued Access to the North Shore Dog Park by Registering Yourself and Your Dogs!

Due to problems with unauthorized use of the dog park by trail users,  we used combination locks on the Dog Park gates last year, but unfortunately, they were stolen!  Access is still limited to those who have dogs and are either members or registered users of the park.

If you don’t use the internet, you can register by texting your name, email, phone number, dog(s) names, and zip code to: Mary Paterson at (808) 639-4366
